Fascia Rise & Fall Gutter Brackets For 4" (100mm) Half Round Cast Iron Guttering In Stainless Steel
This adjustable gutter fascia rise and fall bracket is part of our range of metal gutter brackets and this particular type is designed to help where the gutter level is variable. Manufactured in the UK from marine grade 316L stainless steel this fascia rise and fall gutter bracket is produced and sized for cast iron guttering and offers unrivaled strength and durability. The back plate is manufactured from a 20mm x 5mm 316 stainless steel and is formed using a strong 316 weld. This process provides significant strength and resistance against bending. The rise and fall cup is formed from a 20mm x 3mm 316L stainless steel and has a 316L stainless M10 threaded bar which is secured with two A2 stainless steel nuts.
If you want to use these for plastic, zinc, aluminium or cast iron effect gutters, please contact us for confirmation of sizes and speak to your guttering supplier concerning any potential reaction between the materials.
This bracket is designed to fit the 4" (100mm) common half round cast iron gutter profile (See attached guide image relating to gutter sizing).
- The back bracket projects approximately 100mm from the rear of the bracket to the centre of the hole.
- The height from the base of the bracket to the fixing holes (drop) is 120mm.
- The fixing holes are spaced 80mm apart.
- The rise & fall thread length is approximately 120mm
Please note that if you are purchasing for use with other types of guttering such as plastic or aluminium, that the design only has a single return on the cup and would normally rely on the weight of the cast iron to keep the guttering in place.
So why spend more on stainless steel brackets, won't plated steel be just as good??
If you are reading this then there is a good chance that your existing brackets have or are coming to the end of their life. This potentially leaves you with the tricky task of removing the existing guttering and brackets, having to fit replacements and restoring the guttering. It can be an arduous task and one that most people would only like to do once. With a mild steel bracket, you are entirely reliant on the protective coating to stop it rusting and so annual maintenance is essential. Any damage will need to be treated and the brackets potentially re-painted to provide protection for the coming year. It is a constant battle against the elements to ensure that the bracket can retain its structural integrity and hold up your guttering. This is particularly important for cast iron guttering where the weight is significantly more than modern materials.
If you factor in the hours spent removing, preparing, repainting, re-fitting and also the cost of the new paint; the price of a stainless steel alternative might not seem so high after all.
There can be no denying that the initial outlay for a stainless steel gutter bracket is much higher than a standard steel bracket but that should not put you off choosing them for your project. Marine grade 316L stainless steel gutter brackets do not suffer uniform corrosion in the same way as mild steel versions will, when exposed to wet environments. The combination of air and moisture will readily rust standard metal brackets. For gutter brackets, stainless steel is an ideal corrosion-resistant material and definitely advisable in areas which are exposed to the harsh British elements, especially around the coast.
Whilst it is true that you should maintain your guttering at least once a year, it is a much easier task without having to remove or replace your gutter brackets.
Stainless steel is used because of the corrosion resistance in a wide variety of service environments, usually without additional coatings. In certain circumstances, however, stainless steel components may require a coated (paint) finish so if you are intending to paint these, please ensure that you use the correct primer or your paint will not stick. There are a number of metal paint products available including Hammerite 'Special Metals Primer' which will promote adhesion to stainless steel.
As most period properties have a cast iron rainwater system, it is recommended that the brackets are either repaired or replaced with reproduction cast iron brackets in the same profile. However, steel brackets can be used but they need to be robust enough to hold up cast iron gutters and most modern day off-the-shelf brackets are only suitable for modern day materials. Again, choosing a British made bracket with a more substantial cup and thicker thread for a rise and fall bracket will provide a more robust solution.
A rise and fall bracket with a thick thread is also particularly useful where an old building has suffered from settlement which has caused the roof to sway or swag. This irregularity of levels at the rafters can cause problems when fitting or repairing the gutter. A rise and fall bracket can be adjusted according to the rise and fall of the gutter. This is particularly useful with cast iron guttering which is a lot more rigid than plastic and considered a more appropriate replacement material for historic buildings.
This fascia rise and fall stainless steel metal bracket is one design in a range which includes drive in rise & fall brackets, gutter repair brackets, side rafter rise and fall brackets, top rafter rise and fall brackets, drive in brackets and fascia rise and fall brackets.
